Made by Hand: The Tufting Process

This rug is made by hand tufting. Following the design, an artisan uses a dedicated tool to insert yarn into a backing fabric and form the pile.

Its construction differs from weaving individual warp and weft threads, but the design is still formed by an artisan's hand. The result has a dimensional, softly defined character distinct from machine weaving.

The ground uses loop pile and the flowers use cut pile, creating contrasting textures that make the blooms appear raised. This detailed finish can be appreciated both visually and by touch. At approximately 11 mm thick, it also provides a pleasantly substantial feel underfoot.
