About Tabriz pictorial rugs
Tabriz is a historic city in northwestern Iran with a long tradition of trade along the Silk Road.
Its rug-making heritage spans centuries, with finely woven carpets valued by patrons and traders.
Tabriz pictorial weaving draws on painting and realism as well as the region's floral and geometric rug traditions, creating detailed textile pictures.
Landscapes, people, animals and flowers are interpreted through carefully chosen colors and skilled weaving, bringing the expressive qualities of a picture to a textile.
Features
Fine examples use silk or combinations of wool and silk in densely knotted handwork. Please see the specification table for this piece's materials.
Subtle color changes and shading create depth and detail.
Framing allows a pictorial rug to be displayed as textile art.
Craftsmanship and character
A pictorial rug requires considerable time, skill and attention to detail. Its appeal lies in both the image and the handwork, making it a piece to enjoy and care for over the years.
A pictorial rug can also bring a distinctive focal point to a contemporary room.
Tabriz pictorial rugs bring together textile art, traditional craft and the individual character of handweaving.
