About this piece
Abundant flowers decorate the navy center and outer border. Pale cream silk forms fine repeating patterns over softly colored border panels. Dense, substantial weaving and generous silk highlights give this finely made Persian rug an elegant, luminous presence.
Rugs from Bijar in northwestern Iran are often called iron rugs for their firm, tightly packed weave. The dense construction helps keep dust from penetrating deeply, while the substantial thickness cushions the hard floor beneath.
