A handwoven Baluch rug with intricate geometric motifs in deep burgundy and navy.
Two traditional Toranj medallions are arranged vertically, surrounded by geometric motifs of different sizes and finely patterned borders. Ivory and small touches of green accent a composed palette of red, navy and brown.
Baluch rug weaving is a tradition of Baluch communities in eastern Iran and the surrounding Afghan region. Deep reds, navy and brown, together with strong geometric patterns, give these rugs a distinctive tribal and rustic beauty.
Up close, small motifs are carefully linked together, revealing the character of handwork. The substantial wool pile and firm weave create a warm texture.
Measuring 187 × 103 cm, it suits the space before a sofa, a bedside or a living room accent, and also fits naturally into narrower areas.
The restrained burgundy-and-navy palette pairs well with wood and leather. It complements antique, vintage and classic interiors, while adding depth to a simple contemporary room.
With use, the wool settles and its character develops, one of the pleasures of living with a tribal rug.
