A Gabbeh woven just for you
Choose the size, colours, pattern and motifs for a fully made-to-order Gabbeh. A photograph, a sketch or simply an idea is enough to begin. Send us the size you need and an image that captures the mood you like.

From an idea to a woven rug
You do not need a finished design. We can work from a child’s drawing, a rough sketch, a photograph of a rug or interior you like, or a description of your preferred colours and atmosphere. We discuss how to adapt the image, colours and shapes to your chosen size and weave.
Examples include a child’s drawing and a rug inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s Red Fuji.

Handwoven in a workshop in Iran
Oriental Moon has worked with Gabbeh for more than 20 years and arranges production locally in Iran.
- Design consultation: we adapt your photograph, sketch or idea to the rug’s dimensions.
- Dyeing: colours are created with plant dyes, chosen from samples or developed with your reference in mind. We send a photograph for colour confirmation after dyeing.
- Handweaving: the artisan works by hand, using your chosen weave grade. Progress photographs can also be shared.
- Inspection and delivery: we check size, colour and pattern before shipping to Japan.
The usual lead time, including production and transport, is approximately 4–6 months. Busy periods and the design may affect timing. For delivery outside Japan, please confirm the destination and arrangements when requesting your quotation.
Three weave grades
- Amaleh: a quality Gabbeh weave well suited to a thick, soft rug, with relatively little loose fibre.
- Kashkuli: a finer weave for more detailed patterns, with a soft feel and relatively little loose fibre.
- Luribaft: a particularly fine weave for highly detailed work, with relatively little loose fibre.
The finest weave is not automatically the best choice for every design. Choose according to the detail you want and your budget.

Questions about custom orders
How closely can an image be reproduced?
Size, colour, pattern, motifs and thickness can generally be specified. The level of detail depends on the weave grade. We can adapt the mood of a reference rug and change its size or colours.
Can I cancel?
In principle, orders cannot be cancelled after production begins. Payment is required in advance. Initial defects or significant faults are addressed through an appropriate exchange, refund or other resolution.
Will the dimensions be exact?
Because each rug is handmade, the finished size may vary by approximately ±5 cm. Please take this into account when planning the space.
