It Feels Like Stepping onto the Iranian Landscape / 2021-03-28

The brown geometric patterns of this Shiraz kilim create a sophisticated space. To me, its modest, understated palette recalls Qashqai women, and its fine flatweaving shows the skill for which these textiles are admired. Set on the brick-red terracotta floor of the garden room, it sits beautifully beside my grey-beige Hoshinamai rug. Together, they make me feel as though I am stepping onto the Iranian landscape.
↓ It also works well with the pomegranate-design Hoshinamai Gabbeh.

Kilims suit spaces with an outdoor feel, such as tiled floors, earthen entrances and wooden decks. Here, the kilim looks particularly at home against the terracotta.
