No.318

The Gabbeh arrived shortly after noon today. I opened it and placed it in the living room straight away. As you explained, the colours look lighter or darker depending on the viewing direction, which surprised me. My wife was the main reason for choosing it, but I like it too—it is better in person than in the photographs. The fine weaving on the back is impressive as well. I had long decided that, if we bought a rug, it would be a Gabbeh. We wanted something we could pass on to our children, and hope to care for this one so that it becomes such a piece. Thank you. I am attaching photographs.

Green Gabbeh rugs are popular for the sense of nature they bring indoors; this almost looks like a garden in your room. Finer weaving, as in this Luribaft, allows more delicate shading and intricate motifs. Its appearance changes with viewing direction, daylight and the type of indoor lighting.
