A Traditional Qashqai Motif: The Lion / 2015-12-01
No.233
He arrived in no time—Leo is here! The rug was actually a little too large, but finding the colours and design I loved in exactly the right size was difficult, and with the weather getting colder I could not wait. It does bend a little at the edge, but we will make it work. Even the dark spot on his belly adds to his charm. I love Leo! He looks dignified and glossy, welcoming visitors in the entrance. I keep finding myself saying his name whenever I pass. Our once-bare entrance finally has colour. For now he is simply laid there and looks a little lonely, so I want to decorate the space around him. We will take good care of him and enjoy living together. Thank you. I really am a great fan of Oriental Moon. Vintage Gabbeh rugs are wonderful!

Like a painting, each woven lion reflects its maker's individuality, from realistic animals to almost cartoon-like characters. During visits to Iran, we have seen rugs larger than the room simply turned up against the wall, in homes and even among the carpets at the Saadabad Palace museum. Your photograph brought those scenes to mind.
