How Bringing Home a Gabbeh Added Happiness to Everyday Life
"You do say something nice now and then!"
A Gabbeh and the Easy Understanding Between a Long-Married Couple

A married couple once visited our shop together.
The husband seemed to be interested in a Gabbeh for his study.
His wife was less enthusiastic: "It is expensive. Isn't it a bit of a waste?"
As they compared rugs, her gentle teasing and his quick replies went back and forth,
and I have to admit that I felt a little nervous.
Still, they chose a rug they liked, and by the time we were having coffee afterward,
I remember feeling reassured that they were probably a very close couple after all.
A few months later, they contacted us to arrange another visit.
This time it was the wife who called.
"Every night before bed, my husband lies down on the Gabbeh
and rubs his cheek against it. He really seems to love it.
Seeing him like that has made me feel glad we bought it too."
That was what she told us.
The rug's colors also had a connection to the husband's work. When his wife said again how pleased she was with their choice,
he replied, "You do say something nice now and then!"
The easy understanding of a couple who had spent many years together was clear, and I found it deeply heartwarming.
They really were very close.
A Gabbeh can become more than part of the decor.
The time spent choosing it, living with it and making memories around it can turn it into part of family life.
Sometimes a single rug expresses something important that words alone cannot.
Being present for those moments is one of the greatest pleasures of our work.
