This antique Kashan carpet displays an exceptionally elaborate floral composition, rendered with the delicacy and refinement characteristic of a 100% silk weave. Set against an elegant ivory field, the design is centred on an ornate flower vase surrounded by flowering trees, scrolling branches and an abundance of finely detailed blossoms. Although the composition is based on formal symmetry, subtle variations in the flowers, leaves and colours create a remarkable sense of depth and natural movement. The palette is built around rich crimson and burgundy tones, complemented by deep indigo, soft blue, pink and warm golden-brown accents.
